Comparison Lumiere Brothers and Heavy Metal Parking Lot

The Lumiere Brothers’ film’s while radically altering the understanding of photography, was still in tune with their contemporaries’ views of portraiture. The emphasis on informal events or intimate settings brought the viewer closer to the subject, while finding a new emphasis on the common person. This reveals to a view of importance to the side show of the times. Rather than film world leaders, they sensed a necessity to document the more direct reality around them.
Heavy Metal parking lot does much of the same thing, in an era of glamorized rock stars and hair bands, it is in the parking lot that the “experience” that is paid for exists. It is a shift of emphasis away from the popular figures that are projections of modern culture, and a move towards the more concentrated form of that youth culture, festering in the parking lot.

R.I.P A remix manifesto

In response to the documentary.

There will always be sub culture, and the way the manifesto addresses this places the idea of sub culture, not in a “new light”, but in a sometimes ignored stance. The past will always try to control the future and within this bullet point it is understood why sub-culture often live and die without coming to mainstream. In the exception, sub cultures tend to explode when making their way to pop culture, and then stand a truer test. Within the light of the mainstream there is far more of an audience out to dismantle this new “phenomenon”.

R.I.P. A Remix Manifesto does a service to this particular transition by displaying in contrast to each other, innovation under dismantlement and within a bolstering environment (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). This leads to a direct excavation of copyright infringement laws and the constraining web they tie around entertainment sub cultures. Under the copyright laws of the United States this web has found its influence moving to foreign countries, pulling others into this absurd web, while cracking down on the citizens within the countries boundaries.
